You can always expect me to be professional, dedicated and supportive. I can teach you in any method that best suits your needs, and I am always prepared to alter my methods to suit your current level of musicianship. I'll always do my best to get you where you want to go, and I'll give you the directions to get there.

I've played and taught just about everything and everyone from early acoustic blues, to the original country giants, to Motown, to the "classic" rock of the 60s and 70s, to 80s, 90s and current-day pop, rock, metal and alternative. You name it. Guitar and bass, equally. If you like this stuff, there's a lot we can work on. I encourage you to show me what music you love, so you can learn from that perspective.

As we work together, I will do the following, according to your changing needs:

  • Assess and help you modify your form, so you can play more comfortably.
  • Show you the basic and advanced skill set you need to enhance your current level of playing, and move you to the next level. This includes any type and level of technique and music theory. It is my wish that, sooner or later, you understand your instrument, and music itself (to the extent you want to), so you can just listen to a song and play it, or play anything you want to, on your own.
  • Provide you with audio copies of the music we're working on, at different speeds, and cut into loops, where appropriate, so you can have the best material to practice and jam with. (It is really important that you tell me the styles and songs you enjoy). What Artists and songs make you want to play that instrument? What motivates you? So long as you actively listen to music and choose what you're aiming for, it is easy for me to show you just what you need to play it.
  • Provide you with accompanying music notation in the form of tablature, if it suits your needs. I can play and transcribe anything I hear, to the finest detail and nuance. If I take time to write out what we're working on, just remember that it is done during our lesson time. Some students are highly visual, and benefit from tablature, while others are more "ear" players, and rarely look at notation. We will address your style and needs as we go along.
  • Whenever helpful, I will accompany you on bass, guitar, drums, keyboards and voice (often assembling tracks of original and cover tunes on the fly), so you can play with me in a band setting, which gives you skills that ordinary music instruction cannot impart.

I make no distinctions between casual or beginning players, and dedicated, lifelong musicians. I take every lesson and every student as seriously as the next, and I enjoy working with every sort of student.

I can also easily identify with all the frustrations and struggles of learning the guitar and bass, because I have encountered all of them in my life. Being self-taught, I know all the hard knocks. Because of that, you can expect me to be patient with you. I may drive you hard as you can go at times, but I will always do so with respect.
